The film is based on the true story of the July 2002 Überlingen mid-air collision though for the movie the names, places, and other events were changed. In the film Roman Melnyk, a construction worker, leaves work early, for the arrival of his wife and pregnant daughter, Olena and Nadiya, from New York City aboard flight AX 112. At the airport to welcome his family, Roman receives the news that flight AX 112, with his wife and pregnant daughter onboard, had been in an accident.

The movie flashes back to the story, of Jacob Bonanos, an air traffic controller, who is happily married to a woman named Christina with whom he has a young son named Samuel. Jacob who reported for his night shift became distracted while working when slowly saw two flights he was directing AX 112 and the other flight, DH 616, disappear from the radar. Subsequently, Jacob is made known that the two planes collided and were destroyed.
The film because of the Überlingen flight collision, depicts a story of sadness, confusion, depression, and anguish, from this, it is very relatable for anyone who has experienced any of this. Even though this is the case the film is inspirational as it offers a look at how our choices can affect us, and those around us from generation to generation.
