This film is based on a true story. Christopher Gardner (portrayed by Will Smith), his wife (portrayed by Thandie Newton), and his son (portrayed by Jaden Smith) all live together in an apartment, where Gardner pursuing a dream of “making it” by selling bone density scanners, which he has highly invested in. Despite the bone scanner being slightly better than traditional X-ray machines, these devices do not sell well, and soon enough Gardner and his family are struggling financially to make ends meet.

Things take a turn when Gardner meets an impressive stockbroker and asks two of the most important questions, “What do you do? How do you do it?”. Gardner interested now in pursuing a dream of becoming a stock broker, has now met a roadblock, as his wife leaves him. Gardner who makes it clear to his estranged wife that he is to be the one to take care of their son, eventually loses his apartment and both he and his son are forced to live out in the streets. However, while Gardner continues to sell bone density scanners he lands a role as an unpaid stock broker intern at Dean Witter, which offers a competitive internship with the chance of becoming a paid employee.
The Pursuit of Happyness teaches a valuable lesson, whether succeed or fail, give your dream(s) everything you have and do not listen to anyone who tells you you cannot do it.
