The Incredible Hulk follows the story of Dr. David Banner played by Bill Bixby. Dr. Banner is a physician/scientist who was traumatized by the tragic loss of his wife in which he could not save her from a burning car. Banner concludes the reason he could not save her was that he did not have the physical strength to rescue her, so he sets out to research and experiment with ways to tap into what he called the “hidden strength” that all humans have. Banner conducted an experiment on himself in which he exposed himself to dangerously high levels of gamma radiation. The result is he metamorphoses into a giant, green hulk played by Lou Ferrigno whenever he becomes angry. The creature the Hulk is mistakenly wanted for murder and is followed by an investigative reporter Jack McGee played by Jack Colvin who wants the creature to be captured. The series is based on the Marvel comic book “The Incredible Hulk”, but its origin and story are quite different.

The Incredible Hulk television series follows Dr. Banner’s attempts to find a cure for himself. Banner travels through many different towns and cities across the United States. As he searches for a cure he encounters many different people and families he helps along the way, with the help of his metamorphosing into the Hulk. It’s a dual issue, Banner tries to help himself however long the way the creature he becomes helps others and this is the reason we find this show inspirational. It’s an interesting dichotomy as Banner makes a mistake in solving an issue of weakness but in turn, he overcomes the weakness by “ruining” his life in turn he helps others by saving their lives, and yet Banner wants to be cured and return to his normal life.
Note: The show has 5 total seasons but in the last season there are only 7 episodes as the show was cancelled due to budget constraints. After the cancellation of the series, there are three made-for-TV movies to wrap the series up.
